As you make the trip to Shoal Creek Gardens, you are likely to notice the trees that canopy the gravel road. You will probably gaze up as you notice how the woods rise up the bluff to one side while a flat creek bottom spans the other side off the road. As you approach the nursery, you will see a giant white barn that looks like it has been painted into its place. You may even notice a donkey in the barn lot, waiting for your arrival – Willy likes to welcome new visitors.
Shoal Creek Gardens is the dream of Kristy Nagle. A lifetime resident of Southwest Missouri, Kristy has always had a passion for growing plants and connecting with her community. The greenhouse where Shoal Creek Gardens sells most of its plants, is nestled on the banks of Shoal Creek in the middle of a small valley that is home to Kristy’s family. The family land was originally procured by Kristy’s father, Gary. Gary was passionate about the land and worked diligently to preserve its beauty and natural resources – going so far as to establish a conservation tree farm. Since his passing, Kristy and her family have continued his mission, nurturing the property and creating a space that truly captures the beauty of life on a creek. Kristy’s passion for the land and preserving the native plants in the area is vividly present when you step into the greenhouse. Her gentle nature and welcoming spirit encourage visitors to ask questions, get to know the land, and take a piece of nature home.
